REAL POKER CARD TABLE COVERS

With the increased interest in Texas Hold em
as well as the World Poker Tour on TV,
more and more fans are becoming players
either via simple home games, tournaments,
benefits, or fireman charity games.  You got it —

They are sprouting up like spring flowers.

However The Joy of the game is dependent on many other factors than the win…

Players want better playing tools.  They want convenience.
And with that need.. the desire for unusual
Decks of cards,
heavier chips, and more conducive poker playing surfaces.
So let’s learn more about them!
~~~~ – a bit about me ~~~
I’m Nicki.. I have been providing table cover surfaces since 2006.
I and a group of friends wanted to do our own Texas Hold’em Monday night gig.  Nothing fancy.. a deck of cards, some chips from Walmart, a traveling Trophy, and the typical kitchen table.
Just a Monday night thing.. some wine, or beer, or whatever after dinner.
We played on a crappy plastic table cover from walmart.
Soon, we found.. the playing surface needed to be more.
So i went looking on ebay for some ideas.  I found some, but felt I could do better.  My business.. i make velvet drawstring bags.  It was a natural turn, and i got making drawstring poly felt covers.
It was only a matter of time that i learned – felt surfaces can become crappy too.  I did some more research – and found a way to make the poly felts better. Our surface held up.  I began offering them for others.
Next issue was to get a surface that was better for every day play.  That research has yielded some better options – the research continues.
So, Let’s begin.
The first question I have been asked the most – How Much Does It Cost?
Basically any table size / shape that is 60” or less starts at 20.00 USD.
I can quote you on any shape – round, square, rectangle, oblong oval, oval pill, conference.
For the size.. i need the  L * W * D for your table.
Every Felt cloth comes with a drawstring – at N/C.
Recommended are the Barrel Loc Slider – One Dollar per pair.
Option 1- Elastic Band – will run 5.00 USD extra.
Option 2- Elastic Band with barrel loc $7.00 USD extra. – This option is the most preferred.. it gives you the snap of the band and the flexible on/ off control with the barrel locs.
We do recommend Pre-treat on the poly felts- a spray process that holds the nap into the felt.  This is 3.00 USD.
Shipping / Handling anywhere in USA begins at 17.00 USD – the medium flat rate cost as of 2013.
Rates change depending on total weight and dimensions of the box.
International Priority Mail depends on Destination.
We will ship anywhere in the World.
In a rush.. i can express it – no problem
Even if you do a buy it now.. i still want to confirm the size and shape of the table.. I would hate to send something that does not fit!
We are eager for Business.  We can offer quantity discounts on orders greater than 50 pieces.
Next Question:
WHAT TYPES OF PLAYING SURFACES WORK BEST FOR YOU?
WHAT DO I NEED?
WHAT IS THE SHAPE OF THE TABLE?
HOW DO I PICK THE RIGHT TABLE COVER FOR MY NEEDS?
HOW OFTEN DO WE PLAY???
1ST ONE MUST CONSIDER –
HOW MANY PLAYERS ARE SITTING AT THE GAME
AND WHAT KIND OF TABLE ARE WE PLAYING ON!
It may seem like the really dumb question..
but Tables and Chairs are crucial to comfort.
When playing the game.. the serious moment –
need not be disrupted by the squeak of the chair,
the creak of the table.  IS THAT A TELL???
SO To begin with, you need to select the location,
the table shape, table size, the set up..  Then
what kind of surface your prefer..?
1. WHAT KIND OF TABLE ARE WE USING?
RECTANGLE, OVAL, OBLONG, SQUARE, ROUND, OVAL OBLONG, HEXAGON, CONFERENCE?
I ask that question first as it makes a big difference.
A rectangle or oblong table has 2 long  sides, the corners are squared.
A square table is just that.. length of each side is the same.
A round table has a circumference.
An oval table generally has 2 long sides with rounded ends.
An oval oblong is a nice big rectangle table with round corners (sometimes referred to as bull nosed) instead of squared corners.
An Oval PILL – is that round table with a leaf inserted.  The round table expands from the classic 48″ round to 64 * 48″ lenght.  The Pill shape (looking down at the table it looks like a tylenol capsule) is an unique cut.
A hexagon has angled corners.
Conference – is that HUGE long table – most times square cornered by on occasion is also rounded corners.
2. Next – what is the table made of?
Is it glass, wood, plywood, plastic, composite, metal?
Is it a poker board surface with a pool felt top?
Does it have pre-made pockets for chips?
Knowing that answer.. sets the tone for the top.
GLASS
A glass table needs something soft on it to absorb the noise, and make the edge feel smooth and soft.  Some glass tables have an edge that is pretty yet rough to lean on.  Some glass tables also have a texture in the glass, so chips and cards do not slide. It looks pretty, but is not conducive to play.
Some glass table edges are beveled.
The Table cover you select has to fix the feel of the glass surface.  Also consider, You may want a pad under the table cover to give the surface a softer, but no trampoline, feel.
How about Pre-made Tabletops on glass?This is a good option, if they do not slide.  You may want to insulate the glass surface from the tabletop with a cloth barrier – felt pad, cloth quilted pad, or even carpet padding.  Glass tables will accentuate any banging sound.
WOOD
A wood table by nature has a soft feel.
The edges generally are not rough, but the top can be slippery.  Many wood tables have a grain that is also annoying to play.
Any tabletop or cloth will work correct the feel.
A table padding my also be recommended.  Trial and error is suggested.  A pre-made tabletop would also work, if it fits the table properly.
Many times a table cover is simply thrown on the table, no cinch.  Soon the players find that there is a lot of sliding going on.. and it is not the cards – but everything in front of them – chips, drinks and all.
PEG BOARD TABLES
This is truly an unique idea that came from a group of architects and  contractors.  A great setup for outside, as you can play, the table surface is durable to the outside, and can stay mounted outside as the top will will drain.  However, as great as this inexpensive surface for outside play maybe, you will need some sort of cover and padding.  The concept of the drill holes was so you could peg or anchor the cards to the table.  But the peg holes will be uncomfortable.  The edge will tend to be rough, and if not sanded, it will need a finished surface. Poplin Speed Cloth Lite with a   pad is perfect for these as well.
PLASTIC PATIO
A plastic table may or may not have ridges on the entire top for outside moisture drainage.  The plastic table feels like just that.. plastic.
It is a good, suitable playing surface.
Plastic tables can come square, round, rectangle and/ or oval oblong (with rounded corners).  Weathering maybe an issue, as plastic will break with prolong exposure to uv / sunlight.  I get a lot of players who just went to wWalmart or Coscos – and their table is just perfect.  These tables tend to be 6 feet long with a 2″ edge.   A pre-made tabletop may work just right.  Many times the catalog covers will not fit.  A custom cut works best.
COMPOSITE?
These can be a plastic, even a stone mix.  You need a cover and a pad to make it feel more like a table, and not like a statue for birds.  Some composite tables are rather cheap and not solid.  Poly felt would be a preferable option.
METAL?
Aluminum or steel is common.  Good for outside patio tables.  They can be smooth, but generally are textured or ribbed to weep off rain.
They would require a pad to absorb the texture and the noise factor.
TYPICAL CARD TABLE PRE-MADE TABLES?
These can be a plastic, even a METAL AND PAD mix.  Of all the orders we receive, it is for tables of this type that have been purchased for individual or group play.  They tend to be the typical 60″ round version with a one or 2 inch edge.  A drawstring or elastic band felt cover is the most recommended.  Pad generally is optional only.
TABLE LEG POSITIONS?  Table legs can be a center post or set even with the table edge or inset by 1-4″.  How you sit in relation to the leg says a lot about comfort – or distraction.  Be sure to take this into account with buying a new table, or covering an existing table.  Players are very concerned how a the cinched bonnet rides against a leg that is flush with the edge.  I recommend the drawstring bonnet.  I can put extra cord at the corners, so the legs can slide through the loop, and the top can be cinched more tightly.
3. PADDED TABLECLOTH COVERS?
DO I NEED A PAD?
Many times I am asked.. What is padding?
PADS
Pads can be any type of material that will not slide on the table, and will provide just enough cushion to the top for comfort without interrupting play.  Pads need to be thin enough so the table surface feels pleasingly soft.  Pads can not be so thick that chips bounce, or so the tablecloth bunches.
There are all sorts of pads available, but the trick is to find one that is wide and long enough to fit the table.
PADS DO NOT HAVE HEMS OR DRAWSTRINGS!
Do you have padding for the tablecloth to cover up the ridges and what types do your recommend?  LET’S MAKE THIS CLEAR —
WHAT DO CASINO POKER TABLES USE FOR PADDING?
Actually they do not use pads.  The material that is on typical casino tables is a poly composite of plastic soft foam either rolled or stretched on the table, and totally fixed to the surface.  It is not felt or velvet or any atypical cloth.  It is a product that is not available for general recreational play.  The foam is sprayed and then screen printed.  The foam does not come off by rubbing, only by actual scraping.
Can a foam backed tablecloth be as good as the real casino table?  Yes – they are terrific. The foam – less than 1/16″ – will settle the cloth from shifting and give an insulated feel.  However, foam backed cloths may bunch in the wash, and they may not press out well.  Eventually the foam flakes away or thins, leaving patches under the cover.  The cover no longer sets smoothly.
When it comes to Padding.. There are several types of padding you could consider.
Precut premade padded table boards. Foam, cotton batting, a thin layer of Fleece, a piece of carpet padding (available in several different thickness) or even an additional precut piece of Wool Felt.
All can be cut to fit.
Precut pre-made padded table boards. Often referred to as Dinning Room / banquet table under boards – These are made to existing sizes with a hard cardboard backing, fleece top and a smooth fiting cotton surface.  They can also have a vinyl top with fleece bottom layer.  Most offered are for standard round or oval sizes (even rectangle with rounded corners).  Precut, premade can vary in price.  Some companies will custom make, the cost is rather expensive.
Foam – A thin layer for foam is ideal, but it must be very thin.  Simply go to your local fabric store and purchase a sheet.  Lay it on the table, and cut it even with the edge.  The foam, however, will eventually ware out.  It does not wash well.  A very thin sheet may not be readily available.
Carpet Padding – can be found at any carpet store.  Most are a composite of pressed chunks.  Find the thickness that works for you.. it will give the game a unique feel for the players.
Cotton batting- can be found at any discount fabric store, even walmart.  You need a thin sheet.  Sheets however may not be wide enough, but can be flat stitched together.  Test for the right thickness, if possible.  They will bunch up in the wash.  I do not recommend them sewn to the table top.  Cotton batting is best for quilts, who whats to play on a quilt.
Fleece – Fleece will not bunch or shift under the tablecloth.. it is Machine washable, and can be cut to just about any size.  It does not require hemming, it will not ravel, it will not flake.  The cost can run anywhere from 9.99 – 19.99 a yard.  But the widths run upto 60″+.
Easiest solution.  You can go to your local department store (walmart, target, kmart) and buy a thin layer of Foam or Fleece and cut it to lay on top of the table, and just throw the table cover over it.
Wool / Poly Felt – Ideally a precut pad of wool felt is just thick enough under a cover to give you that extra security.  It can be any kind of craft felt, as long as it is wide enough and fits to the table edge.  I do not recommend sewing the felt pad to the cloth, as it may bunch in the wash.
Plastic fuzzy backed tablecloths – A cheap holiday plastic fuzzy backed cloth is a quick and easy solution.  They run for 2.99 – 4.99. Put it on the table, and cut it even to the edges.  Then put a poker cloth on top of it.  You will not see the vinyl/plastic cloth, but it will cushions the table surface just enough, protects the table surface from spills and make the ridges vanish.
ALL IN ONE – VINYL PLASTIC – ELASTIC BANDED COVERS. The ultimate – all in one solution.  These come in pre-made – pre-cut certain sizes.  They rarely come, however, without a printed pattern.  They are cut to fit, but allow no adjustment.  With time these do show stress cracks by the elastic, and the surfaces does easliy split. Be sure to pick a size that will fit your table. – see our list – at www.sexybloomers.com/PokerCloth.htm
Elasticized Table pads and Quilted Table Pads: These smooth fitting pads protect your tabletops and cushion elbows.  Quilted vinyl pads have a fleece backing and elasticized edges.  Preset sizes are available.  Also available is a custom pad you cut yourself.  White vinyl is quilted over soft polyester.  Cut the shape and site you want.
Felt topped cardboard pads – The perfect solution.  If you can find them, they are the best pad for table and tablecloth.  They are pre-made, and may or may not fit the table.  They may or may not be expensive.  Search the internet for companies that make or sell them.
CLASSIC PREMADE TABLETOP TABLE WITH LEGS.
This is the Ultimate, obviously.  These range from cheap to rather expensive depending on the shape you purchase and the number of players.
These come with a Bristol Billard Cloth top.  They are ideal for playing.  They may come with a padded bumper.  The only thing you may need for this, is a dust cover, or packing bag to protect it when you are not using it.
When the table is not in use – should we cover it?  A DUST COVER / STORAGE – TRAVEL COVER FOR THAT EXPENSIVE TABLETOP UNIT YOU JUST INVESTED IN!
So you bought that great unit.. and there is nothing to save the top from damage when you put it up, or are not playing.  There has a been a recent demand.. what would work other than a sheet and a big rubber band (or safety pins etc.)
A neat wool felt tablecover made large enough with drawstring is the answer.  Need One?  Just ask .. we will prepare to your request.
What about elastic.  Elastic is great, easy, but the zip will wear out.  We recommend a good drawstring.
If you elect not to go via the wool felt.. try Fleece!
The cost per yard maybe more, but it is durable!
NOW.. WHAT KIND OF SURFACE COVER DO YOU WANT ON THAT TABLE???
PREMADE TABLETOP OR TABLE COVER – called “THE BONNET!”???
THERE ARE SEVERAL CHOICES FOR TABLE SURFACES:
BUT WHICH ONE IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
SHOULD I GO FOR A PRE-MADE TABLETOP OR TABLECLOTH?
Tabletops are probably the best choice.  They have the best durable surface.  If you can afford what you want.. and have the room.. go for it.
Tablecloths are the practical alternative choice.  Tablecloths are easy to pack, can fit an existing tabletop, and can be washed if need be.  If there is an accident, or an ash burn – from a cigar – the tablecloth can be repaired and in the worse case inexpensively replaced.
SO OF THE OPTIONS – WHICH IS YOUR CHOICE?
It all comes down to .. HOW OFTEN DO YOU PLAY???
If you play once a month or less – Poly Felt is the best economical choice.  If you want to be upstream, then go with the Rich Vel Suede or Speed Lite poplin.
If you play once a week, every other day or more..
Skip the Felts (poly or wool) and go for the Velvet Rich Vel Suede or Speed lite POPLIN from the get go.
It lasts and will not pill!  But it does cost!!
If you play once a month and are on a budget – I always tell my players – Start with the Felt Bonnet.  It will last you anywhere from 6 months to 2 years before it needs replacing.  When it gets crappy, keep the felt bonnet as your pad and upgrade to the better choices – Rich Vel Suede or Speed Lite Poplin.
Of the options.. what are the types of so called fabrics out there?
THERE ARE THE PRE-MADE POKER TABLETOPS, OR
THE TABLECLOTHS – bonnet surfaces:
VELVET, VELVETEEN, WASHABLE NYLON VELVET, BILLIARD CLOTH, SUITED SPEED CLOTH, NEOPRENE, POLY WOOL FELT, REAL WOOL FELT, and SPEED LITE POPLIN:
1. PRE-MADE POKER TABLE TOPS!
These are made mostly of a plastic / or wood composite base, with a wool felt cloth glued to the surface, similar to a pool table.  The table sits a set number of players.  GENERALLY, Each player stand has cup holders and chip holders in front of them.  They come is a complete table, or just a folding unit that sits on top of a table.  On the plus side, they are durable – a lasting surface.  On the negative side, they may or may not be cheap.  Do you need another table in the room?  What happens when more than the allotment wishes to play all at once?  What happens if something spills on the top?  Does the surface eventually wear out?  These tables are bulky and need to be stored?  Tough choice but a quick an easy solution.
CATALOG COVER TOPS – a quick an easy solution.  They are realitively inexpensive.  Always green and made of very cheap immitation felt. They look good.  Are Made in China or Asian country.  The typically have an elastic band sewn to the surface (not in a working or sliding hem).  They work well for limited play, but do fall apart after one – 5 month play.
2. THE CINCH – ELASTIC VS. DRAWSTRING?
Tablecloths are usually cut large enough to fit under the rim – that 1-2″ drop edge, then the ledge juts in and drops again to a facing under the table.  The edges of the bonnet are usually hemmed, and some sort of securing option is inserted.
Which is best?
Elastic is the greatest idea since white bread.  If it is cut just right, it will fit the cloth snug every time.  Elastic is cut to fit the table, and allow for some final adjustment by the PLAYER.  It is easily adjustable. But remember… once the zip wears out, so does the snug.  Elastic can be replaced, easily.  It just takes a tool and some time.
For more control – my players Elect an Elastic Band with Barrel Loc Cinch
Drawstring comes in may types.  Cotton cord, Nylon cord, Twisted yarn, poly twist, hemp, etc.  The Drawstring is inserted into the hem, and will cinch up everytime.  Drawstrings are adjustable to tables.  But, it will fray and eventually wear out the hem at the open ends.  Drawstrings are most common on the market.  Drawstrings provide them best flexibility and control.
BARREL LOC?
Drawstrings / cords can be knotted and unknotted easily.  A barrel loc is a plastic slide clamp (often found on the drawstrings on rain slickers) that allows you to cinch up and hold that desired position on the cord, without untieing.)  All our premade cloths with drawstring come with 2 barrel locs.  It is reommended.
3.  TABLECLOTH MATERIALS:VELVET?
Velvets have nap and are usually plush.  The are limited by the width of the bolt – most velvets are 55″ wide which precludes round tables over 50″.  They do come in a straight as well as a stretchy line.  They are generally a woven material.  They are usually washable or drycleanable.  Different velvets do have different naps.  Velvet may or may not be expensive.  I suggest think about playing on a velvet dress.. you get the picture.  Velvet will wear like iron. They do not fuzz or pill.  Velvets work well as a rectangle, square, oval and oblong size. It can be a good choice.  It does accept a drawstring pretty well.
NYLON VELVET OR SORIEE?
Nylon velvet – washable rich vel is a great idea.  It is durable, machine washable & dryable.  It has a very low, suede like nap.  Once it is washed, the surface tightens up.  Cards slide like butter.  The drawback?  Colors are limited.  Green is standard and in stock.  It is expensive, Top of the LINE and to this date.. we have only replaced one because the client desired another color.
Black, Tan, Red is available upon special order request.  It costs extra to have the mill cut it.. but i am told this option is the NUTS.  The drawback, for 60″ round or larger, a splice has to be added.  There is a seam on the edge, but it does not affect play.
Soiree Velvet – is our Top of the Line Plush Velvet.  Usually used for exclusive drawstring bags / trophy presentation packaging.  It makes an ideal cover for presentations.  It is durable, machine washable & dryable.  It comes in a 55″ width standard.  Basic colors – red, burgundy, green, black, white, ivory, grey, navy, lilac, and royal blue are available.  It is super.. it is very expensive.  I did one for a traveling group of Magicians in Miami.  It looks terrific.
VELVET- polyester?  These are polyester blends.  They have pratically no nap.  They come in varied widths, sometimes as great as 60″.  Available in many colors and readily purchased at discount suppliers – like walmart.  They are washable, will machine dry, and will not fuzz or pill.  BUT They will stretch.  So you may never get a snug fit.  Tablecoths made from polyester velvets will hang well on a table surface.
VELVETEENS?
Velveteens are popular.  They have a lower nap, similar to suede.  But they are rarely a woven material.  Most velveteens are a cotton material base, glued, and covered with velvet dust.  Pros –  they do wear like iron, but the dust will eventually rub off.  Velveteens can not, for the most part, be washed unless otherwise indicated.  You can brush them, but that will increase the chance that the dust will separate from the backing faster. They are rather inexpensive.  Velveteens can be flat and they can be stretchy.  The stretchy ones are used for the inexpensive dresses you see at walmart, etc.  Size is a problem.  The greatest width per bolt is 55″, so a large round table is out of the question.  Cheap stretch velveteens may come as wide as 60″.  Also typical velveteens may or may not accept a drawstring well, and the top cloth will bunch when cinched.  They make a fair flat rectangle, oblong, square shape cloth.  Rounds are a challenge.
Logo screen prints and iron on tranfers will work,  but as the glued dust velvet surface degrades, so does the permancy of the transfer.
WASHABLE VELVETEENS  & JEWEL GREEN RICHVELS?
These are new.  They come in a ton of colors, and wear like iron.  They tend to be a bit stiff.  They feel like a suede.  And as the name indicates they can be washed.  However, the greatest width available is 58″, so again a large round table can not be accomodated.  They are great for the rectangle, oval, oblongs, and squares.. they will accept the drawstring and the Elastic band.  They make a great hang off the table tablecloth too.  The material is truly expensive.   A imprint will work, embroidery is highly recommended.  These will not ware out!  Extremely durable and machine washable!  Top of the line for most upgrades.
BILLIARD CLOTH?
This is the best choice by far.  However, it may not be readily available. It is a HEAVY material. A fine bristol cloth will work also.  Widths will be the biggest handicap.  The cloth will come about 50″ wide at best.  This is a heavy cloth.  It will ravel, and may not hem well.  It needs to be glued to a surface.  Hence why you see them on premade tables and casinos with a bumper edge.  The bumper acutally finishes off the cloth edge, to prevent raveling, and provide comfort to the players.  A specialy fabric store will carry it.  It may require some reseach and searching to locate a supplier.
SUITED SPEED CLOTH?
This is a special prepared fabric.  The top is a nylon fabric, printed with card suits.  The back side is a rubber-like composite.  The nylon top is heat fixed the the backing.  It provides a lot of pluses.  First off is it waterproof, and spills are not an issue.  It is durable, long lasting, can take a beating.  The rubber-like backing provides an all in one surface and pad.  A super product.  I have only seen it suited, but i assume it also comes in solid colors.
If it is so great .. what is the drawbacks?
It is only 54″ wide to the base bolt, and can not be made to fit a typical 60″ round table.  It is hard to cut, can not be sewn, will not cinch up. It is not bonnet quality.  I have been asked many times to prepare a bonnet with it.   It is made to be rolled out and cut into square, rectangle or oval shape then glued, nailed, stapled to a plywood base.  It is heavy – it will last.  A great concept.
NEOPRENE SPEED CLOTH?
A great IDEA!   I have not actually seen it, but i have been told it can mold into any shape.  Will strech and fit any table.  I assume it can accomodate any round or oval, as well as square or rectangle.  It generally comes in a two color cover.  It is ideal.  Waterproof, spill proof, and can stay on an outside table.  But it is wet suit stuff.  I am told it feels like you are playing on a wet suit.  It has a smooth but sticky feel.  It is expensive.  It is durable.  It maybe just what you want to invest in.  It does not feel like felt.
POLY WOOL FELTS?The least expensive and most pliable of the fabrics, POLY wool felts come in a mirade of colors.  Let’s not kid ourselves, most of the felts out there are Craft Felt.  They are soft, they will accept the drawstring easily, and mold to any table without question.  But they have one huge drawback, as with any POLY wool product… they will eventually pill (ball into knots), flake, fuzz, and have thin areas upon excessive use.   They do fill the bill.
The can be washed.  POLY Wool felts come 74″ wide and can be made into large enough rounds to cover a good size table.  Even a 90″ round that has a center seam is acceptable, as the seam sides lay very flat.
They are easy to pack up .. and you can start playing asap with them.
Here is the twist.. once the Poly wool felt is treated with our process, because the nap is sealed, a screen print would set and last.
Saddly we can not get the oil paints now for imprinting.  A silkscreen using oil paints would work.  Embroidery is recommended.  Poly felts do accept an iron on image transfer – and hench you can apply your own playouts.
REAL WOOL FELTS?  These are what the player looks for, but sadly they do not fill the bill.  Real Wool will PILL, Shed, and are NOT MACHINE WASHABLE.  They will shrink.  They do come in many standard colors.  They are generally color fast.  Real Wool is thicker, Looks awesome on the table and is expected to be superior to Poly felt, yet responses by our players have been critcal.  The bonnets fit well to the table, will accept elastic band / drawstring, and in hours fill your floor with particles.  An very undesirable option.  Cost wise, real felt is 3 times more expensive than our best velvets, and we have removed them for our list.
POPLIN / SPEED CLOTH LITE – This is NEW.  Poplin / speed lite is a polyester Linen fabric.  It durable, color fast, comes in a 62″ width, and cinches up without a problem.  Idea for outside tables.  Poplin Bonnets do require a felt pad for ultimate comfront.  Poplin comes in a multitude of colors.  Black, Red, Green, Navy, Sandy Tan, Purple.. etc.  It is light weight, has a terrific feel and readily availble.  Cost is less than velvet but more than felt.  Poplin will accept any logo transfer.  It is machine washabe / machine dryable. Does not wrinkle.  Light weight, no texture – it has a smooth surface feel.  I have a group of traveling gamers in NC.. and they prefer the Poplin Speed as the ideal surface to set up, play, pack up an go.
Poplin is ultra quality.
SUEDE –  These are low nap, real feel suede fabrics.  A low nap surface.  Not machine wash.  It can be brushed and fills the gap – of lots more colors.  Suede is popular.
Alur is only 56″ wide to the bolt, and 60″ round tables would have a splice / hem resting on the edge.  Alur as well as Suede Carisma provide a soft leather-like playing surface.  Carisma comes only 49″ to the bolt.  Both Fabrics are high grade, and righteously expensive.  These both offer an wide color choice.  They are a step above our premium velvet.
Both Suede fabrics are not machine wash.  They are hand wash only and air dry.  They do come in allot more color selection than our traditional velvet soriee.
DO TABLE BONNETS WEAR OUT??? Ultimately, everyone desires a poker cloth that is just like the ones in the Casino.   Unique colors, imprinted, no fuzz, perfect wear.
Those actually are not felt , but a sponge composite with a felt-Likefeel.  The Manufacturesr actually uses a blown foam that is stuck to a plywood base, or  A covering that is cut, stretcted to fit, and glued to hold position.  Like the covering on a Pool Table.
Can a wool felt cloth be close to the casino product?In some respects, yes.  It is not the perfect resolution, but an affordable one.
IS POLY WOOL FELT IS A GREAT DEAL
WHAT IS THE REAL PROBLEM WITH POLY WOOL TABLECLOTHS?
3 types of POLY wool felt are in the market – that which is plyable and that which is stiff.
The stiff felt, also a No Pill craft felt, has been treated to resist pilling.
It comes in narrow widths, no greater than 36″.  It is washable.  It is a pressed hard felt.  It is expensive.  It will show wear after 3-6 months at the area where there is extensive rubbing.
PREMIUM POLY felts – a craft felt.  It comes in the typical 72-74″ bolt.  It is pressed hard at the mill.  It gives the appearance that it is pill resistant, however it pill and sheds worse than a big hairy dog.  It is expensive.
Plyable CLASSIC POLY felts, also a craft felt, are more readily available.  They come in lots of colors.  They are softer than premium.  They are washable, and they will show ware and fuzz with continued use.  These tend to be made of recylced plastic waste products.  The will last 6 months to a year with weekly use.  The fibers will peel up in the area of most use.
~~~~~~~~~~~

How do you solve the wear issue?

I have had success with our pretreat program.  But let’s face it.. Guys want to get playing.. not spend time with household chores to keep the playing surface super.

So.. If an area of the table cover is more prone to wear.. that is the place where we recommend an Iron On Image, Digital Decal, or embroidery to seal it up from wear!

IS IT NECESSARY TO HAVE A TABLECLOTH WITH PAYOUTS ON IT?
NO.  Our Tablecloths are not made with any Imprinted  silk screened payouts.

But what if you want to Imprint a payout or logo on a cloth?

Any type of fuzzy surface will not generally hold a silk screen or foil transfer imprint.

An Imprint must be clear, bright, and clean.  Any fuzzy based cloth will not give a firm clear edge on any imprint.

LOGO’S? As the other main question we get.. can these take an imprint???  No, not really.  A logo or imprint that is screen printed or heat stamped.. will peel off.  The stamp just can not penetrate the nap.

Logos can be embroidered Iron on Transfer, or made into a permanent decal without a problem.

IRON ON TRANSFERS?

Yes – using transfer sheets provided by Avery.com & your computer / color jet printer, you can create an image and permanently iron it on Velvet!

IRON ON TRANSFER by AVERY.COM

Recently, a client did some experimentation with digital image transfer.  Using A T-shirt transfer paper system by AVERY.COM, he was able to make his imprint, and hot iron it on.  He says it works.  It looked great!

If you can find a company or computer program that makes the transfers – You personalized Imprint can adhere permanently!

The only drawback to any iron on transfer?

Transfer paper for the computer to print the image is limited by size.  If your image is large, you may need to construct it in sections and apply.

The image better be just where you want it before your transfer.  Once you start, you can not lift and restart the transfer.

The iron must be the right temperature – not too hot so the transfer gets burned – not hot enough and not all the edges are firmly in place before you lift off the transfer paper.  Transfer that are not firmly adhered with peel off.

Image / logo – total image transfer DECAL – another option, we offer a service where your image can be made into a decal that is heat sealed to the surface.  Most images have a set up fee, and can cost $1-5 to prepare.

Embroidery of your image – would be the best choice.  Most personalized embroidery is expensive.  If the cost of the embroidery outweighs the cost of the cloth, you may want to reconsider the need for the embroidery.  Also remember, you are limited by the hoop size used by the embroidery machine.  The largest hoop size to create the image is 7″ * 11″

With or Without imprint — our cloths are perfect for all Card Games: Bridge, Let it Ride, Caribbean Stud, Black Jack, Wisk – Dominos, Tai Pai, Mahjong –  you name it.

At this time we do have some stock Logo for iron transfer – be sure to inquire.

Okay.. I have made up my mind..

HOW DO I PICK THE BEST CLOTH FOR MY TABLE?
Number 1 –  What feels good to you and how much hassel to set up the game is the most important question.  Even if you are playing in the same game room.. or out on the patio.  The setup needs to be fast and hassel free.  Tabletops are great.  Open the box, put them on the table.. you are ready to go.

Again.. be sure to consider – How often are you Playing with picking out the cloth!

Table covers  – if it is just a tablecloth top to drape.  They are usually not too heavy and slide on fast.  But players will rub up against them and they will shift.
Bonnets – are like shower caps for the table.  Throw them on, cinch them up and PLAY!

Cinching – takes time to adjust, but makes the surface ideal.  My cloths come with a knot.  The best fix is a adjust clip – Barrel Locs.  We provide these for our cloths – on the drawstring –  2 clips set at opposite sides on the table so you can cinch to the middled.  The cord slips through the clip and you adjust the stop with a button.

Pre-made poly felt tablecloths with the sewn in elastic?  A terrific inexpensive solution.  I have seen these available in catalogs.  Drawbacks?  The elastic will ravel, and lose it’s pull.  They tend be a cheap elastic cord that is sewn to the tablecloth, and can not be replaced.It is an easy fix.  The tablecloth may still pill.

Best Cinch – Elastic Band with Barrel loc.  It gives you ultimate tightness and control.  The Elastic Band is good for tyical tables.  It is not good for Long rectangle tables.  A drawstring is preferred.
WHAT TYPES OF COLORS ARE OUT THERE???

In POLY wool felt – a rainbow of colors.
Typical requested colors  – that I have in stock – are
CASINO HUNTER GREEN, KELLY GREEN, NAVY OR ROYAL BLUE, CRANBERRY / RUBY MAROON, CHERRY RED, PURPLE, BLACK, TAN WHEAT, EVEN COFFEE!  I can usually get whatever floats your boat!

In Velvet, colors are a bit limited to the primary colors.  Besides Red, White, Blue, Black,  Green is standard as well as Tan / Cream.

Washable NYLON Velvet – Our supplier has limited his selection because of demand.  A dark kelly green is in stock.  We also have Black, Cherry Red, Doeskin upon special request.  Special requests carry a cutting charge fee.

SPEED LITE – is loaded with options.  More colors avaliable than on a Peacock.  Speed lite linen is not felt – is it polyester linen, and is made and dyed in the USA.  It is readily available. Our dark green hunter, black, and navy are most requested.

VELVET SORIEE – is our preferred velvet.  It make a premium play surface.  Colors are basic: green, black, red, plum, grey, navy and royal blue, and burgundy.

SUEDE: Both Alur and Carisma offer 67 color choices.  It is a surface that will deal with the wear.  It can not be washed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How you pick your bonnet color is up to your location and how the cloth complements the chips, etc.Most makers can mix and match.  But the choice is mostly up to your taste.  Don’t pick some outlandish color that distracts from the game.. heck that’s no fun!
So How do I make the Cloth for you?
1.  You need to measure the table.  I need the Shape of the Table, the size : length, width, and importantly .. the depth of the table edge.
How to pick the right size cloth for your table?
I make the cloth to your specifications.  I ask that you provide me the measurements for the table – edge to edge.  Remember that there is always a thickness to the table, as well as a length from the table edge, underneath to the legs.
(In custom cut – as long as you can give me the information correctly.. i can prepare the bonnet without a problem)  However, if the information is flawed, I may require you to actually make a newspaper cut pattern of your table top.
This is all very important information!
For example: Players may know that the table is 60″ round and make a purchase based on that.. however, they may not get  the coverage to get the bonnet over the edge and under the lip.
If you have a 60″ round table.. by the time we take inconsideration the surface thickness and the edge thickness, as well as other factors.. such as how far the legs are under the table..  a wrong fit can be sent.
A 60″ round with the typical 1-2″ edge will require a first cut of 65″ to guarantee we get the bonnet under the lip.
That raw cut is called the first cut.
A 60″ table with a 2-3″ edge may require a 67″ raw cut.
A 48″ round table generally requires a 55″ first raw cut.
(Rough or raw cut means 1st cut of the material to the table diameter, plus thickness edge, the length to reach under the table, plus the 3″ lost to the hem).
POLY Wool felt bolts come 74″ wide and the final length is dependent upon the shape and size of the table.  I can do any round size – however anything over 72″ will have a splice of fabric added to make the width large enough for that first cut.
Velvet come 58″ wide and SPEED LITE / polyester Linen-  62″ wide on the bolt.
Alur Suede comes 60″ wide to the bolt.
To repeat… Larger rounds will require a splice or a length of fabric added to increase the initial width of the first cut.  There will be a finished seam sitting if not on the table edge, or just infront of a player.
The seam will not affect play.
We never put the seam in the middle of the bonnet.
My experience of satisfaction.. The More information you provide.. the better the fit!
OKAY.. SO I GOT MY BONNET.. HOW DO I KEEP IT IN GREAT SHAPE???
POLY FELTS:
WHAT IS PILLING, FUZZING, FLAKING, THINNING
What do we do about IT?
That is the exact question we have been working on ..
PILLING / FUZZING? In our constant research making these cloths.. I have found that there are differences between Bolts as well as Color batches –  Some POLY FELTS pill and fuzz more than others.
Dry Cleaning Methods and Hot Head Pressing will  make the Cloth compact – but that costs!  And until you wash it – it works swell!  And it is not permanent.
I found this old fashion method that a crafter have used for ages to set up linen crochet ornaments.  The application soaks into the poly felt, and helps make the fibers stay locked into the surface.  It is not permanent, and does require reapplication and maintenance.
I provide the information with each cloth sold.  But to get a leg up on the problem.. I do pre-treat for you.
It will initially set it up.  The buyer may elect for no pre-treatment.  I will leave the treatment selection and process up to you.
I have found that these methods do work!
These treatments are as permanent as you want them.  If you are unhappy with the first try, they can be washed and retreated.
I leave the stiffness up to you.  Think of a women’s hair doo.. how stiff do you want it.
I do recommend that after each treatment – follow up with a hard pressing at your favorite dry cleaner.
Poly felts should Always washed on Cold Water Wash. Always dry on low heat / delicate.  Pre-treat.. and if follow up with dry clear hot hard press.
RICH VEL SUEDE (this not alur or carisma)  – CARE
These can be machine washed, air dry on the line or machine dry.  They do not require any pre-treat, and ironing is up to you.
SPEED LITE – CARE
Generally they are machine washed, air dry on the line, or machine dry.  If they get wrinkled, you can steam iron them on med heat.  They are a great go and play surface.
I hope i have answered most of you concerns about surfaces.  Every day.. someone else tries to come up the solution to the casino like playing surface.
But the idea is to get the table ready, roll out the chips, and start having fun
VELVET SORIEE – CARE
These can be cold water wash and dry.  They can require pressing to get the nice flat look.
SUEDES – ALUR OR CARISMA – CARE
Dry cleaning is recommended.  These can be brushed, and spot washed (not recommended).  You may carefully hand wash and air dry.
